Acne refers to a group of skin conditions which are characterized by whiteheads, blackheads, and inflamed red pimples. It can be caused by a number of things such as exposure to dirt, shaving, extreme levels of humidity, cosmetics, medicine intake, and prolonged contact to chlorinated hydrocarbons.
Other types of skin acne occur during certain life stages such as infancy and puberty. Aside from the effect on the physical appearance of an individual, acne also causes pain and discomfort. To lessen the appearance and worsening of this skin disease, several acne skin care steps can be done.
First, a person who has acne or who shows signs of this skin condition needs to clean his or her skin gently everyday using a mild non-drying soap. This should be done once or twice a day. Some brands of mild soaps include Dove, Neutrogena, and Basics. However, it should be remembered that excessive and repeated skin washing can also be harmful.
Second, the hair of a person must be shampooed daily especially if it is oily. Hair should be combed and pulled back to keep it out of the face. It is not advisable to use tight headbands.
Third, a person must never squeeze, rub, scratch, or pick his or her pimples. Although most people believe that doing the above-mentioned procedures can quickly remove pimples that are currently on the skin, doing so will lead to scarring and infections. Furthermore, touching the face with dirty hands or fingers must be avoided.
The last acne skin care step concerns make-up. Greasy creams and cosmetics must be avoided. Water-based cosmetics can be used instead. It is also needed that make-up has to be washed off before going to bed at night.
